The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

It took me awhile to get into this book. I wasn’t sure where it was going and with the whole backdrop of a magic challenge, I thought this was going to be either dark or too much of a fantasy book for me.
But the characters and story engaged me and I couldn’t put the book down once I picked it up. I highly recommend. I’ve never read a book quite like this before.

I thought the writing of the book was lovely (and it kept me turning pages), but the plot was understated. The blurb made it out to be some epic challenge, but it didn’t seem all that epic to me – just a love story.
That is exactly right. And I think why i was hesitant. I don’t have much interest in epic magic battles.
