The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a great book. I don’t often read Young Adult literature, but this was one that could become a classic. A story of a 7th grade boy in 1967, who starts off thinking his teacher has it “in” for him and assigns him Shakespeare to read. His dad is a local competitive businessman who worries about his reputation and wants his son to take over the family business. His sister wants to be a flower child and to find herself. And the whole nation is tuned in to what is happening in Vietnam and the civil rights movement.
The story is very well-written and I will recommend to many including my 12 year old nephew.
