Green Bay – The Weekend

We spent this past weekend in Green Bay with Chad’s extended family.  It was such a nice weekend once I got past the hassle of planning and coordinating!

The men left very early Friday morning, so they could golf in the afternoon.  (although a storm interrupted that).  And I left with the kids a few hours later.  We met my sister-in-law, niece/nephew, and mother-in-law so we could caravan together.  A quick lunch and a little play time outside of Wausau before arriving in Green Bay early afternoon.  The kids did not need much time to warm up and just started playing. Everyone arrived by dinner and we had a nice evening together, before heading back to the hotel.

The night was long, but oh so short! We had decided to not use the pack-n-play as Charlie is much too long for it and can climb out. We instead ordered some bumpers to put under the sheets and hoped he would be tired and konk out.  NOPE… this kid managed to stay awake until 10:15 both nights. AND got up before 7 both days.  YIKES!

Saturday was a fun-filled day as well. Even on so little sleep. I think we spent about 3 hours at the pool.  Charlie was not a fan of the Puddle-Jumper life jacket I had for him, but soon realized it was better than not going in the pool.  He also learned pretty fast that he could be a “boat” and float with it! 🙂  Maria was a little fish too.  Both had quite the adventure of going down the big waterslide. Maria even went by herself once she got over the initial fear of the size of the slide.  (unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of the whole slide, so you can’t see the size of it, but I bet it was about 2 stories?)

Saturday afternoon/night, was more time together as family at Chad’s cousin’s house, including a campfire and including smores!

Sunday was a quick stop to get Maria’s nails painted by Tami and say good-bye and thank you to everyone.  We stopped in Eau Claire to visit my aunt in the hospital and had a quick visit with my parents.  Maria resisted sleep the WHOLE way home!  5+ hours.  Charlie napped twice.  I was not surprised last night at 5:50 when Maria decided it was time to go to bed! And Chad still had to wake her up this morning.

Swimming Lessons – the Finale

Maria has been taking swimming lessons the last 7 weeks. (although we missed twice)  She has not really enjoyed it though, until tonight! She was always kind of apprehensive about the instructor and just being in the water for so long.  But tonight she was so relaxed and even “swam” with the instructor without crying!  I think it was just a stage or teething though. Her appetite and de-meanor has really been on an upswing the last week or so. (Sleeping is going better too!)  Anyway, it was a nice way to end it. We probably won’t hesitate when we’re ready to do lessons again!

Notice, Maria signs “more, more” when she wants to go again.

Weekend

We had a great weekend. On Friday, Maria and I stayed home. She had her 15 month portraits in the morning. They went well, and we got some cute poses that capture her 15-month personality!

We also went for a walk in the afternoon. We checked out a garage sale and got some puzzles. Also met the people holding the garage sale who have a little girl just 6 months older than Maria and they only live a block over. So hopefully we will see them again soon!

We also went to the park! One of Maria’s favorite places!

Yesterday (Saturday) Grandma and Grandpa came over in the afternoon. That was very fun too! Grandma took Maria for a walk, and Maria got a chance to show off lots for G&G, including dancing, talking, and kicking her ball!

Today, we played in the backyard and visited with the neighbors. Our neighbor Nancy suggested we check out the Heart of the City which has a wading area sometime. Well we came home and got Daddy and our swimsuits, and went right away! It was a lot of fun, and we will definitely be going back! The water is treated, so it’s safe to swim in and there were lots of other kids. Much easier for a quick swim rather than setting up our pool in the back!  The best part was finishing up at the ice cream shop right across the street!

Outside Fun

Maria probably didn’t know what to expect today when she woke up from her nap, and I greeted her in my swimsuit! Although I didn’t figure we’d be outside for almost 2 hours either! But it was a fun afternoon to be outdoors! Especially since we had the pool and sprinkler to keep us cool!  Maria LOVED the sprinkler. Although falling down in the spray of water was a little too much for her. But she was a trooper and after I helped her up each time she went right back for more!

Swimming Lessons – Week #3

Maria didn’t cry tonight when we went in the water! yeah!!!

She did however cry when we got out! She had so much fun! And kept signing “more” when we were “jumping” off the side of pool!

She didn’t even mind the life jacket part of the lesson tonight.  Good times!

—————

Something has been setting her off the last couple nights too. We are fairly certain it is teething.  Hands in mouth all the time, drooling, fussy about certain foods, that she normally isn’t fussy about.  I finally decided to cave and take the advice of a co-worker – Homeopathic Teething Tablets.   She was ready for bed about 10 minutes later and went down without any books or any fussing!

Water Fun

Maria started swimming lessons again tonight. (no pictures – cameras aren’t allowed until the last night).  We got there early, so we could get her used to the water in the zero-entry part of the pool.  She did not like it. She was a little spooked. Was interested in the other kids playing, but clung to me when she got close to the water herself.

Once the lessons started she was not much better. She just clung to me. She wasn’t always crying, but still not super happy.  Finally we got to the part where they had us sit them on the edge of the pool and have them “jump” in.  I don’t know if it was sitting next to the other kids, or seeing Mommy having fun in the pool, but she did a 180 and thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd half of the lesson. When it came to blowing bubbles, she put her face right in. Of course with her mouth open, like she does in the bath tub!  Hopefully next week, we can pick up where we left off!

Once home I gave her a bath.  We had a first too. I was a little slow to realize she was grunting, and when I picked her up, she had already done her dirty work. Oh well, it wasn’t much and easy enough to clean up… just a little gross… bet you’re thrilled that I shared! 🙂

Swimming

Today Maria had her first swimming lesson!  Camera’s are not allowed until the last night (in 7 weeks) so you will have to wait to see how adorable she is in her swimming suit!

She did not like it at all at first. I was a bit surprised, because she loves her bath, but in hind sight, a pool is a lot different than the bathtub!! After singing Little Bunny Foo Foo a few times, Maria was feeling better about the whole experience, and even was splashing and kicking at the end!

We also got to see her friend Jack who we met in our Mommy and Baby class last summer so that was fun too!
